Architects, architectural students, graduates, engineers, planners, landscape architects and designers will be gathered tonight in Auckland’s St Pauls Street Gallery for the 2010 AAA (Auckland Architecture Association) Cavalier Bremworth Design awards.
The awards recognise the best in unbuilt architecture and have had a record 80 entires this year across the two entry categories.
Category A honours the bets in student design, with the winner taking home $3000 and a trophy designed by Christopher Metcalfe. Category B is open to all practicing architects, graduates, designers, and related professionals throughout New Zealand. The winner receives $5000 and a trophy designed by Christopher Metcalfe. The runner-up in each category will receive $1000.
The awards have enlisted an impressive line-up of judges, including Craig Craig Moller (Jon Craig), RTA Studio (Richard Naish) and Neeson Murcutt of Australia.
Jon Craig is one of the co-founders of Wellington based Craig Craig Moller and a much respected industry figure. Jon retired only last year after a distinguished career and now lends his considerable experience and skill to the judging panel.
Richard Naish is a founding director of RTA Studio, and behind the much lauded and awarded Ironbank building. Under his design leadership the practice has won more than 20 NZ and international architectural awards.
Rachel Neeson and Nick Murcutt from Neeson Murcutt in Sydney are internationally recognised for design excellence through their awards, publications, lectures and exhibitions. Neeson Murcutt were represented at both the 2006 and 2008 Venice Architecture Biennale and have won a Wilkinson Award in 2008 and 2009 for residential architecture projects.
