Designworks sets up shop in Christchurch

It’s all go for design agency Designworks with their plans to open their new office in in the Garden City next month. The agency, of Air New Zealand’s speedy check-in terminals and Skycouch fame, will be building on the success of existing South Island clients like PGG Wrightson, AMI Insurance and Silver Fern Farms.

Sven Baker, group chief executive at Designworks, says the decision to launch its first foray into the South Island represents a significant milestone for the company in its efforts to grow the business outside of Wellington and Auckland.

“A Christchurch office will certainly help us deliver on our aims to support New Zealand’s export sector, particularly important Canterbury’s commodities market.

With some of New Zealand's leading businesses and organisations now based in the South Island, Baker says embedding design into a business and translating business strategy into brand strategy should be a key priority for every organisation.

The office in Victoria Street will be led by Odele Rodgers, currently an account director at Designworks’ office in Auckland.

Rodgers has significant experience with some of the country’s top branding projects. During Trust Bank’s merger with Westpac in the 1990s, she played a key role in introducing the new WestpacTrust corporate identity including advertising, sponsorship, wardrobe and retail design.
