Huffington Post founder Arianna Huffington will make her first visit to New Zealand in September to give a keynote speech during an invite-only event series in Auckland next month.

PR agency Anthem is one of the organisations bringing Huffington here, alongside Idealog’s leadership network The Briefing, AUT University, ASB and Stuff.

She’s written 14 books, the most recent of which is Thrive: The Third Metric to Redefining Success and Creating a Life of Well-Being, Wisdom, and Wonder. The book was prompted by her collapse from exhaustion and in it she calls for success measures to include things like wellbeing and giving alongside money and power.

“The idea of success can work – or at least appear to work – in the short term. But over the long term, money and power by themselves are like a two-legged stool – you can balance on them for a while, but eventually you’re going to topple over,” she says in the book. “And more and more people – very successful people – are toppling over.”

She goes on to say that this new definition of success needs to encompass protecting human capital, rather than building and looking after financial capital.

Huffington has twice been named in Forbes’ The World’s 100 Most Powerful Women list and twice in the Time 100 – Time magazine’s list of the world’s 100 most influential people.
