Yahoo! New Zealand has announced a new awards baby, Digital Stars, which will set out to find and reward the best young media planners and buyers in New Zealand.
General manager Laura Maxwell-Hansen says the initiative is a local extension to the Digital Strategy Awards (won by DraftFCB for its What's My Number campaign) and is a chance to recognise rising stars who are helping to take the industry forward.
“The Digital Stars initiative is a fantastic opportunity to identify and celebrate those who don’t often get the credit they deserve and give them the unique chance to further build their professional profile and stay at the leading edge of digital media.”
The competition was run successfully in Australia last year and the local version is open to all digital media planners and buyers who have been working at a New Zealand media agency for less than seven years.
The inaugural round will reward two winners with a trip to one of Australia’s most prestigious marketing and advertising conferences, Ad:Tech, which is held in Sydney in March 2013 (the trip will include the cost of flights, Ad:Tech tickets, accommodation and spending money).
Yahoo! New Zealand will initially select five finalists and they will be asked to write an article on a topic provided by Yahoo! New Zealand, after which two winners will be crowned. And as well as attending the conference, the Digital Stars will have the opportunity to have their voices heard with a series of posts on our sister blog StopPress.
Think you have what it takes? Then go to the website and explain in 140 words or less why you should be a Yahoo! New Zealand Digital Star. Entries open on May 7 and close on July 6, with the five finalists announced on July 17. The two big winners will be announced in August 2012.
