App review: Surveys on the move

SurveyMonkey has become the go to option for small and medium-size companies (and sometimes their larger counterparts) because it’s an easy, quick and free way to canvass your customer base. A while ago the service came to the iPhone and iPad and it’s a fully featured and functional app.

Users start by creating a survey from scratch or by using one of 160 templates. Examples range from customer feedback and satisfaction to demographics, community, opinion polls, quizzes and businesses to business.

Once you pick a template you can choose a colour scheme and how you want the survey to be displayed, then customise the question library by deleting those you don’t want and dragging different items up or down the list.

You then choose how you want to distribute the survey, whether as an email, copying the link to use in your own communications, or via Facebook, Twitter, Google+ or text. The results can be tracked at a granular level thanks to SurveyMonkey’s analystics engine, to number of responses in each question, displayed as percentages and graphs, and you can create custom filters to analyse the responses to each question.

This release will be especially useful for iOS users who want to react quickly to customer feedback if they’re not near their computer. By logging in to your account you can manage surveys across mobile and office devices.

The app is free but there are two paid subscription options with features including unlimited questions, unlimited responses, unlimited filters, adding a company logo and priority support. There’s also a monthly plan with a 1000 response limit per month.
