Block Party

At Idealog, we regularly celebrate our community’s brilliance. But for Idealog’s design issue, we wanted to showcase some of that brilliance in a slightly different way. So we contacted Lego to see if it could provide a few blocks to send out to some of our favourite humans from the fields of art, design, architecture and creative business.

Housing

In 2015 Auckland joined a select group of international cities voted the world’s most livable, ranking ninth in a report by The Economist. The results showed Auckland's increasing levels of desirability across a number of areas such as lifestyle, safety and schooling however availability of quality apartments was not one of them.

Housing

If there’s one thing (other than Clickhole and Donald Trump) we’re obsessed with here at Idealog, it’s alternative housing. We’ve recently looked at people living on floating homes, people living on floating boats, and people living in a number of (okay, five) other alternatives to either a drafty, $2million 100-year-old villa or a uber-drab $1.5 million townhouse in an any-colour-as-long-as-it’s-grey pop-up suburb. Today’s alternative? Straw houses!

Two ex-state houses have been relocated to a site in Ardmore as part of the University of Auckland’s new Sustainable Built Futures Centre, which will provide a testing ground for improving the energy-efficiency and liveability of New Zealand homes.
