Former staff writer Lauren Bartlett had a memorable 2009: she won a Qantas award for her journalism, walked 100 kilometres non-stop, visited 15 countries and moved to a new one. Now that Lauren is based in Singapore, she’s still busy spotting stories for Idealog and has a habit of literally bumping into her idols. Turn to page 24 for her recent meet-up (not even a tweetup) with Twitter’s Biz Stone.

Auckland-born, Dunedin-adopted photographer Alan Dove was comfortably occupied as an electronics technician until he discovered silver halides. “I’ve been drawn to the light side ever since,” he says. Alan likes to move between shooting fashion, portrait and editorial assignments; recent projects include a study of post-tsunami Samoa and the aftermath of the Australian bush fires in February. His commission for Idealog was a bit closer to home: the backyard inventors of Areograph, featured on page 78.
