Law firm’s offices tailor made by Context

Context Architects came up with a range of solutions to the challenges presented when designing a new workplace for law firm Rhodes and Co in Christchurch.

The 130-year-old legal company has done away with individual offices but still needed private spaces, so Context included screens that allow light to enter but shield work areas to deflect noise.

It also provided specially commissioned cabinets for more privacy – and storage – and sit to stand desks. ‘Having the option to stand up on the job is great for our energy and concentration, especially when we’re working long hours to complete a client transaction,” says Rhodes and Co partner George Forbes.

The architects had to come up with a design that catered for “wildly varying dynamics”, including confidential work and sometimes animated discussions, says Forbes.

The look is right for who we are and is right for our client base; which includes first-time home buyers, high net worth individuals and corporates,” he says.
