I knew Neil Young was working on an electric car. What I didn’t realise is that Young and his team are converting his own 1959 Lincoln Continental into a self-charging electric technomarvel.
I like the way Young thinks: people still want big cars and trucks; it should be possible to convert existing cars into energy-efficient vehicles using existing technology; and self-charging vehicles avoid the problem of grid-powered vehicles simply moving the emissions somewhere else. According to Young, they’re already getting 65mpg—from a 2.5 ton vehicle!—and are aiming for 100mpg. I know what I want for Christmas.
