Sir Edmund Hillary has died. If the true mark of greatness is how a person deals with success, Hillary may just have been the greatest. The Herald has a brief story and Wikipedia is tracking updates.
(Update: Lance Wiggs points to National Geographic’sphotographic tribute.)

There are very few who achieve success in their personal and their professinal life. Hillary was a rare chap: a loving husband and father and a giant killer. In the same vein, I enjoyed reading Quincy Jones' interview in Vanity Fair http://www.vanityfair.com/culture/features/2007/07/proust_quincy200707. Good guy.
BTW, VF have done a revamp to their site, at last.
