Editor
Matt has edited Idealog since its launch in December 2005. He worked as a journalist in New Zealand and Japan before launching a web development firm in Dunedin, with clients in New Zealand, the US, the UK and Australia. He later headed the development team at listed e-commerce startup e-Media and then returned to journalism with Computerworld in 2003. In 2008, Matt was named Business Editor of the Year.
Deputy editor
Cassie has been in the magazine industry since 2000, working on a range of titles in various roles including a four-year stint as deputy editor of PC World. Previously editor of our travel magazine Inspire, Cassie is now deputy editor of Idealog and has been with HB Media since 2008.
Art director
Adrian brings over 13 years of publishing design experience with him. He was previously art director at AGM publishing, where he was responsible for the design and development for the first seven years of the now-well established Urbis magazine. He has also won several MPA Designer of the Year awards for Prodesign and Architecture NZ magazines. Adrian joined HB Media in May 2006.
Designer
Su Yin graduated with a degree in graphic design from AUT in 2004 and was soon giving some much-needed style to the IT press at Computerworld and as art director on PC World. She joined HB Media in November 2006 and quickly introduced her colleagues to Neopets, Facebook, Twitter and the joys of two-wheelin’.
Sales & advertising manager
Ben Gibb has a long and successful career selling advertising in New Zealand and in Britain. He played a central role in founding Internet magazine and was advertising manager for Unlimited magazine before being named general manager in 2004. In September 2005 he joined HB Media as sales and marketing manager.
Business director
Martin has spent nearly 20 years in the publishing industry, starting with book publisher Reed Methuen and moving into magazines with IDG Communications, one of the world’s largest technology publishers. There he became general manager of the New Zealand division and publisher of NZ PC World magazine. He also founded >>FFWD magazine, one of Australasia's fastest growing digital entertainment magazines, and was named Publisher of the Year in 2002 by the Magazine Publishers Association. In 2004 he left IDG to form HB Media with Vincent Heeringa.
Editorial director
Vincent won many awards as a journalist with Metro magazine and The Independent Business Weekly and was twice named Editor of the Year by the Magazine Publishers’ Association for his role in founding Unlimited magazine. In 2004 he co-founded HB Media and is a publisher at AUT Media, the publishing division of AUT University.
Co-founder
David is an internationally-awarded creative director and brand consultant (specialising in media brands) with extensive experience in advertising, design, IT and publishing. As a founder of BrandWorld he conceived and developed the phenomenally successful ‘masthead marketing’ brands Family Health Diary and Eating Well (both of which which won unprecedented consecutive NZ Marketing Award for Business to Business marketing in 2005/6). He is also a senior visiting tutor at Massey University, teaching marketing, communications and design research to design students.
Audi designer Wolfgang Egger brings the A5 Sportback to life right in front of our eyes. It’s all about three lines, apparently, but those three lines have been obsessed over. Enjoy the autospeak: the rear comes complete with both accent and elbow.
